France Rejoins NATO, Kisses Russian Ass... huh?!


So the Russians are cutting a defense treaty with Abkhazia in violation of the French-brokered peace treaty following the South Ossetia War.

Russia has moved to bolster its military presence in Abkhazia, signing an agreement on Wednesday to establish a Russian military base in the separatist territory, a focal point of Russia’s war with Georgia in August 2008. President Dmitri A. Medvedev of Russia announced the agreement at a news conference in Moscow with Abkhazia’s president, Sergei V. Bagapsh. It calls for the base to house about 1,700 Russian troops for a minimum of 49 years, the Interfax news agency reported. Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and another separatist enclave, South Ossetia, shortly after the war, vowing to support them economically and militarily. And yet France, like an abused wife who loves the hot sex every Friday night, can't stop selling themselves to the Ruskies.

Panhard of France has begun preliminary talks with Russia over the sale of light armoured vehicles, Jane's has learned. The talks follow reports that Russia wants to buy four Mistral-class amphibious assault ships from France and reflects growing defence ties between Moscow and Paris.

Russia is negotiating the purchase of up to nine Vehicule BlindeLeger (VBL) light armoured vehicles from Panhard, a company spokesman told Jane's on 17 February, in a bid to determine the vehicle's suitability for its requirements.

Talks are at the 'very early stages', added the spokesman, who said that the sale was first discussed in November 2009 at the Milipol defence exhibition in Paris.
