Syria's Foreign Minister Ignoring History

He's warning other nations against recognizing a newly-formed organization that represents the six-month-old opposition.

Syria's foreign minister has warned the international community not to recognize a new council formed by the opposition, saying it is "illegitimate."
Walid al-Moallem has warned that Damascus will take measures against any country that recognizes the Syrian National Council. He did not elaborate.


I am curious what his opinion would've been of the new council formed by the opposition in 1966. Were they illegitimate? Maybe. It seemed to work out for them, though.
