IMHO, anti-missle EW may prove to be the next "game changer" in modern combat operations....if the technology ever becomes feasible and affordable.
To wit: the development of an EW system that is capable of disrupting or defeating missile (and even smart-bomb) guidance systems could nullify many of our leading weapons platforms, including ASW, A2A, A2G, G2A, and G2G.
Imagine, if you will, a battlefield where Mavericks, Javelins, tomahawks, TOW's, or even GBU's could be defeated by an AM-EW system. Imagine if it extended to AIM, Phoenix and AMRAAM systems.
And if an AM-EW system can distrupt a weapon...could it also disrupt a drone or rover?
Suddenly the battlefield of the future is starting to look more like the battlefield of the past...or more like the battlefield of our heavily out-gunned enemies in asymm war.
Of course, all this depends on viability, and affordability.
ASBM's of course!

If it can happen, it probably will... not everywhere at once, but it will.
ReplyDeleteHope we didn't get rid of all those Carl Gustavs....
