DoD Recruiting & Retention Thru October FY'12

The DoD has announced the updated recruiting and retention numbers for FY2012, through October

The Department of Defense announced today recruiting and retention statistics for the active and reserve components for fiscal year-to-date 2012, through October.

Active Component

Recruiting
All four active services met or exceeded their numerical accession goals for fiscal year-to-date 2012, through October.

  • Army -- 5,462 accessions, with a goal of 5,400; 101 percent
  • Navy -- 2,258 accessions, with a goal of 2,258; 100 percent
  • Marine Corps -- 2,182 accessions, with a goal of 2,178; 100 percent
  • Air Force -- 1,399 accessions, with a goal of 1,399; 100 percent
Retention The Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force all exhibited strong retention numbers for the first month of fiscal year-to-date 2012, through October.

Reserve Component
Recruiting Four of the six reserve components met or exceeded their numerical accession goals for fiscal year-to-date 2012, through October.
  • Army National Guard -- 3,450 accessions, with a goal of 3,578; 96 percent
  • Army Reserve -- 1,728 accessions, with a goal of 1,630; 106 percent
  • Navy Reserve -- 642 accessions, with a goal of 642; 100 percent
  • Marine Corps Reserve -- 977 accessions, with a goal of 847; 115 percent
  • Air National Guard -- 484 accessions, with a goal of 639; 76 percent
  • Air Force Reserve -- 614 accessions, with a goal of 614; 100 percent
Attrition All reserve components met their fiscal year 2011 attrition goals (attrition data for the reserve components lags by one month).
