I think wearable and weapon-mounted technology is where the real excitement is. I'm thinking of something like Land Warrior, but with lighter-weight and more robust components, lower power draw, etc. Smart-phones and tablets have driven a LOT of progress in low-power, lightweight electronics. The risk, of course, is the acquisition process. With a five-plus year lead time on the acquisition cycle, the military's "next-gen" wearable tech will be just as obsolete when it hits the field as LandWarrior is now.
