Two Americans claim that they were framed, jailed and tortured by Mexican soldiers. Shohn Huckabee, 23, and Carlos Quijas, 36, say the military planted drugs in their car, then took them to a military base where they were tied up, beaten with rifle butts and electrocuted, The Wall Street Journal reported today.
Huckabee and Quijas each face as much as 25 years in prison if convicted of drug smuggling. Three witnesses, who say they don't know the Americans, testified that they saw soldiers placing suitcases in the car.
Mexican prosecutors say the men were caught red-handed with 100 pounds of marijuana. In a written response to questions from The Wall Street Journal, the military said it "categorically" denies torturing the men.
