Washington Post Spies On The Spies

Today's Washington Post saw the first of a series of articles revealing just how complicated, redundant, and inefficient our intelligence serves are.

Today's online article runs 16 pages, but after six or seven the picture is clear: too much money, too much secrecy, turf wars fueled by ego and keeping-up-with-the-Joneses, and a system which, one source says, is only fully understood to God.

The overall picture it draws is rather depressing: the good guys suffer from compartmentalization, inexperience, and frankly, too much money.

There are several LOL moments in it, if you're inclined to read it with a jaded eye and a sense of humor.

Critics charge that although all the information was obtained via open sources, it places a great deal of sensitive information in one place, making it easier for our enemies to put together a picture we'd rather they didn't see.

That may be true, but from my perspective in the cheap seats, the only thing in it we wouldn't want our enemies to know is, dollar for dollar, how bad we are at this business.

Anyway, for those of you with some time on your hands, it's worth a read. The article starts here: http://projects.washingtonpost.com/top-secret-america/articles/a-hidden-world-growing-beyond-control/
