Somali Terrorists Target Ugandans Soccer Viewing Parties

The news is hyping this as a "World Cup" attack, but let's face it, the World Cup viewing parties just happened to be what gathered people into a target-rich environment for Islamic terrorists to target the country that's fighting them elsewhere.

Simultaneous explosions tore through crowds watching the World Cup final at a rugby club and a restaurant in Uganda's capital, killing at least 64 people including one American, officials said. Police feared an al-Qaida-linked Somali militant group was behind the attacks.
The blasts went off as people watched the game between Spain and the Netherlands late Sunday. The attack on the rugby club, where crowds sat outside watching a large-screen TV, left 49 dead, police said. Fifteen others were killed in the restaurant explosion.

[--snip--]

Kampala's police chief said he believed Somalia's most feared militant group, al-Shabab, could be responsible for the attack. Al-Shabab is known to have links with al-Qaida, and it counts militant veterans from the Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan conflicts among its ranks. Simultaneous attacks are also one of al-Qaida's hallmarks.
If those suspicions prove true, it would be the first time that al-Shabab has carried out attacks outside of Somalia.

Brant- I have seen reports that the al-Shabab had been targeting World Cup events in Somilia because organized sports are "un-Islamic." But I agree with your point that I guess it doesn't matter in the end.
