The best game I ever got for Christmas was my first: my favourite uncle sent me a copy fo Tactics II when I was 15. It was exactly what I had been looking for but didn't realize it existed. I don't know if my parents ever forgave him.
The only war game i've ever received for Christmas was the original Axis and Allies. My dad and I played the heck out of that game.
My cousin and I worked out a Christmas deal long, long ago:
Every year for Christmas we'd give each other a game for Christmas that there's no way our wives would otherwise let us buy.
That way it looks completely altruistic and it's hard for the wives to tell us we can't get the other something, because we'd look like cads if we get receive without giving.
It's worked for about 8 years now, and I've gotten 2 OCS games, 2 ASL boxes, Blood & Bridges, RuneWars, and something I forget right now
:-D
^^^^ I REALLY love that idea!

Best Game: “Defender” by Williams Electronics for the Atari 2600.
Biggest Hint: “I really would like a new racing game for Christmas”
Did it work? No – see below.
Biggest Disappointment: “NASCAR Road Racing” When you are gifted a game in a box that says “CD-ROM Classics”, you just know it is going to be bad, and in that regard it did not disappoint.
